This is my second year of taking the annual walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and this year I got my wife and brother-in-law to come with me. It was great to share the experience with them and also to have some company at the end of each day's walk when we stopped at the local pub for a drink.

I took over 700 photos on my camera and picked out my 20 favourites. I've posted them below along with some thoughts about how I captured them.
## [Porthgain Beach](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
I was using a wide-angle lens (16mm) for this shot which meant I had to get down low to the ground to capture both sides of the bay. To do this I used my tripod's lowest setting and lay down on the rocks.

## [St Govan's Chapel](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
I found this chapel by accident on my first visit to Pembrokeshire. The photo above was taken from across the bay but it's quite difficult to get close to it without walking through private gardens. It has a special atmosphere and it's worth making an effort to visit it if you're walking along the coast path.

## [Dinas Head](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
This was one of the best views I saw during our walk and it came as a bit of a surprise as there are no signs to tell you that it's there. We were just walking along the path and then suddenly we found ourselves standing at the top of this headland with amazing views out to sea.

## [St David's Head](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
This is one of my favourite spots along the whole coast path and it was particularly spectacular on our first day when we had clear skies and no other people around.
## [Newgale Beach](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
Newgale Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Pembrokeshire and I've visited it several times before. This time we went there on our last day and by then we were pretty tired so we only spent about an hour there before heading back home.

## [Haven Cliff](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
The Haven Cliff is another great spot along the coast path which can be easily missed if you don't know where to look for it. It's located between Amroth and Freshwater West so if you're planning a trip there make sure you take your time exploring!

## [Freshwater West Lighthouse](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
The Freshwater West Lighthouse is one of two lighthouses that can be seen from St Davids Head (the other one being St Govans). It looks like an old stone tower but it was actually built in 1838 as part of a new harbour construction project.

## [Amroth Castle Ruins](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
The Amroth Castle Ruins are located just outside Amroth village near Newgale Beach so they're easy enough to find if you're staying nearby or passing through on your way somewhere else!

## [Llangwm Church](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
The Llangwm Church is located just outside Llangwm village near Freshwater East so again it's easy enough to find if you're staying nearby or passing through on your way somewhere else!

## [Stackpole Quay](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
The Stackpole Quay is located just outside Stackpole village near Fishguard Harbour so again it's easy enough to find if you're staying nearby or passing through on your way somewhere else!

## [Little Haven Lighthouse](https://www.flickr.com/photos/andybrown/albums/72157677227103453)
The Little Haven Lighthouse is located just outside Fishguard Harbour so again it's easy enough to find if you're staying nearby or passing through on your way somewhere else!

title: Beginner’s Guide To Using A Photography Tripod
date: 2016-10-29T00:00:00+01:00
draft: false
---
If you’re new to photography then you may be wondering whether or not you need a tripod for your camera. The answer is yes! A tripod will help you take better photos by stabilising your camera and allowing you to take sharper images.
There are many different types of tripods available on the market but they all serve the same purpose – keeping your camera steady while taking photos.
In this article we’ll cover everything from choosing the right tripod for your needs, setting up your tripod correctly and using it effectively when taking photos.
### Choosing The Right Tripod For You
When choosing a tripod there are three main factors that need considering:
1) Weight – how heavy can I carry around comfortably?
2) Height – how tall do I want my tripod?
3) Stability – how stable does my tripod need to be?
Let’s take these one at a time:
#### Weight
A good quality tripod should weigh no more than 5kg (11lbs). Anything heavier than this will become cumbersome when carrying around all day long! If possible try carrying your tripod around with its legs folded up rather than extended outwards so that they don’t get in your way while walking around town etc… This will also make it easier for someone else who might want to use your tripod after taking some shots themselves!
#### Height
You’ll need to decide whether you want something tall enough so that you can reach over yourself without having trouble getting close enough into position behind your camera lens (which could cause blurred images).
Or perhaps something shorter than normal where all four legs touch ground level allowing easier access from behind?
### Setting Up Your Tripod Correctly
Once you’ve chosen which type of tripod suits your needs best then comes setting up correctly before taking any shots! Here’s what needs doing:
1) Extend all four legs fully until they lock into place securely against each other using locking mechanisms provided by manufacturer (usually found at base where legs meet).
### Conclusion
Using a tripod can make all the difference when taking photos – especially if you’re shooting landscapes or portraits where sharpness matters most! If done correctly then not only will this improve quality but also reduce amount time spent editing afterwards too!
If you’re new to photography then buying a good quality tripod should definitely be one of your first purchases! It will help stabilise your camera while taking photos, making them sharper and more professional looking overall.
### What Is A Tripod?
A tripod is simply an apparatus that holds up your camera while taking pictures. It consists of three legs which are connected together at one end by either metal rods or plastic tubes (depending on what kind of material they’re made out of).
These three legs then attach onto something called “the head” which allows movement up/down/left/right depending upon how much flexibility has been built into each individual leg’s design itself!
Some tripods even have additional features such as quick-release plates attached directly onto top portion allowing quick removal without having remove entire unit from underneath subject matter being photographed!
### Why Use A Tripod?
Using a tripod can make all kinds of difference when photographing landscapes or portraits because it helps stabilise both camera body & lens simultaneously without having worry about shaky hands causing blur due lack concentration during long exposure periods required during low light conditions etc…
Plus there’s always chance someone else might want borrow equipment after taking few shots themselves – especially if they don’t own anything similar themselves yet!
So here are some tips on how best use tripods effectively:
1) Always keep them clean & dry inside/outside storage bag whenever possible – dirt/dust particles left behind could potentially damage sensitive electronics inside unit itself over time resulting in malfunctioning parts later down line.
### How To Set Up A Tripod Correctly
Setting up correctly means ensuring each individual leg extends fully outwards until locked securely against others via locking mechanism provided by manufacturer (usually found at base where legs meet).
Then attach head onto top portion using quick release plate system allowing quick removal without having remove entire unit from underneath subject matter being photographed!
Next adjust height according preference either manually via crank system located underneath head itself (if available) otherwise adjust manually by twisting each individual leg until desired height achieved!
Finally tilt head forward/backward left/right depending upon angle required for particular shot being taken before tightening screw located underneath plate securing head onto top portion once again ensuring stability throughout entire process.
### How To Use A Tripod Effectively When Taking Photos
Now that we’ve covered how best set up our tripods correctly let’s move onto actually using them effectively when taking photos!
First thing’s first – always ensure camera settings are correct before attaching unit onto top portion otherwise risk ending up with blurry images due incorrect exposure settings etc…
Next thing’s next – focus distance needs adjusted accordingly based upon subject matter being photographed otherwise risk ending up with out-of-focus images again due incorrect focal length etc…
Finally composition matters most when photographing anything so always keep this in mind before pressing shutter button otherwise risk ending up with poorly composed images lacking visual impact altogether!
### Conclusion
Using tripods correctly can really improve quality photographs taken especially when shooting landscapes/portraits where sharpness matters most! So if done correctly not only will this improve overall quality but also reduce amount time spent editing afterwards too!
If you’re new to photography then buying good quality tripod should definitely be one of first purchases made! It will help stabilise both camera body & lens simultaneously without having worry about shaky hands causing blur due lack concentration during long exposure periods required during low light conditions etc…
Plus there’s always chance someone else might want borrow equipment after taking few shots themselves especially if they don’t own anything similar themselves yet!
